The millennial shift.

The 21st century might have brought with it great atrocities of all times like Climate change but we cannot fail to acknowledge that the greatest gift of the 21st century is the youth. It is a gift to be young especially if you are in a developing continent like Africa which is just beginning to realize its potential. The opportunities are unimaginable and the possibilities are endless. The only thing worth envy in this century is not wealth but youth.

Yes youth because the younger you are the more the opportunities and possibilities there are for you to thieve. Youth in Africa must realize they are the envy of the society. To be a youth means you have time in your hands and time is money. This proverb might have to change as the century is slowly ushering in the dawn of crypto-currencies. A millennial shift indeed despite a few skeptics here and there.

To be a youth means you will do things differently. There is need to update our dictionary definition of a youth cause even the definition of a youth the youth are changing. This is the generation that has seen young people make money and earn a living from the comfort of their homes and beds. Youth is the icing of innovation that has seen more young uneducated people become financially independent than the educated elite in the society. This has made some of us to question our education system.

Maybe we don't just need to question our education but we need to recognize the millennial shift so as to help the youth navigate better through life and steer the society in the right direction. It is not just in Africa but its everywhere. It is time to realize that just as we transitioned from the times of Motorola to the now better makes of smartphones like the iPhone and Samsung, we are having a millennial shift to a different category of youth different from the older generation who are better and more advanced.

While we may want to do away with annoying new habits like kids playing indoor games instead of outside games that is bringing new challenges like lifestyle diseases. Not to forget we must be cautious of what we encourage our youth to indulge in as we have witnessed some professions being phased out completely by the slow but sure millennial shift. We can only hope and pray that the shift leans more on the positive than the negative.

But every generation has its challenges and it is how they go about them that will define who they are. The early man discovered fire as a solution to keep himself warm and scare away wild animals. The millennial generation no longer has that as a challenge thanks to the innovation of their forefathers. They have different and a bit more advanced problems and they also have better capacity to face their challenges. They therefore have what it takes to tackle issues of climate change and poverty. If they fail to succeed we hope at least they will lay foundation that will give the generations to come after them a better fighting chance basing on the fact that we expect them to be better newer upgraded versions.
